Programs
We are operating at total capacity for our childcare programs all-year round. With an additional van, WECC can now transport 42 people on field trips! As a result, we spent the summer traveling throughout Providence County. In addition to swimming, the children participated in community gardening, crafts, sports camps, fishing, and visiting farms. The demand for before and after-school care increased significantly as the school year began. To improve our capacity, WECC now uses the Gilbert Stuart Middle School Gymnasium across the street.

Early Learning
The WECC provides a supportive, stimulating learning environment designed to meet all our children’s needs. As part of our early childhood curriculum, WECC delivers an engaging and comprehensive learning environment that engages children at every stage of the day. We allow children to experience learning as a fun activity at an early age. As part of the West End Early Learning Program, children develop gross motor, fine motor, eye-hand coordination, recognition of letters, shapes, numbers, colors, speech, and social skills.

Youth Program
WECC provides a positive environment that promotes and enhances the development of youth by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence. Our goal is to inspire children and youth, especially those from diverse or difficult circumstances, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and healthy members of their community. We provide all our city’s youth with the opportunity to play, grow, and learn safely. With the guidance of our trained staff, our programming is designed to develop critical skills and healthy habits through fun hands-on learning projects and activities. Children that consistently attend our before and after school programming are more likely to graduate from high school.
Social Service
It has been well documented that urban areas are bearing the brunt of the COVID-19 crisis. Most notably the pandemic is having a major impact on the urban poor. Our community has experienced significant financial loss and food insecurity. We have seen firsthand the health disparities facing our local community.
The number of families visiting the food pantry increased 150% from FY20 to FY21. All clients served received much more than just fresh vegetables, meats, dairy, and other dietary staples. We assist with paying the escalating costs of utilities such as electricity, provide warm winter coats and socks, and distributes personal care items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, anti-bacterial soap, laundry detergent, and cleaning supplies.
Educational Programs
WECC implements an incredible early childhood curriculum that engages children and teaches all steps of the day. We give children an opportunity to experience learning as fun. WECC prepares our youngest by promoting various skill areas such as: gross motor, fine motor, eye-hand coordination, recognition of letters, recognition of shapes, recognition of numbers, recognition of colors, speech skills, and social skills. Our supportive, stimulating learning environment ensures our children feel loved.
We appreciate any contribution you have for the kids
