What we do for the community:
About West End Community Center
The West End Community Center, Inc., (WECC) was founded and incorporated by a group of neighborhood citizens in 1975. WECC serves the diverse community of the West End of Providence, an area burdened with issues of poverty, unstable and unsafe housing, language and educational barriers and other obstacles to economic success. These statistics point to the necessity of one-stop shop place like WECC, which can assist neighborhood residents with the various issues they face.
WECC’s programs are intergenerational, as we strive to service the whole family. The main objective is to expand the quantity and improve the quality of services available to the residents of our diverse community and to aid them in acquiring the knowledge, motivation resources and skills to achieve the American Dream.

Our Philosophy
It is the philosophy of the West End Community Center (WECC) that children be encouraged to learn and grow by providing a foundation of developmentally appropriate experiences and a nurturing environment. It is essential that the children at West End are valued, nurtured and respected as individuals. We provide a learning environment that is motivating and fun, so that our children reach their full potential of learning. We believe that children are unique, so our preschool program provides and inclusive setting to recognize children’s varied abilities, interest, needs and learning styles.

Supporting Learning Environment
At the West End Community Center Early Learning Program, we believe that preschool education is crucial to a child’s development. We at WECC take great pride in assisting all children in the early years of schooling, while ensuring their smooth transition into kindergarten. The first five years of a child’s life is when they are the most intellectually absorbent. This time period is essential to a child’s building knowledge and developing language to communicate about what they learn.
Children acquire theories about how the world works; they learn to solve problems; and ask questions to gain information. Therefore, we at West End Early Learning Center, provide a supportive, stimulating learning environment to ensure all our children’s needs are met.
